Event Description

Co-Location Shelter Fundamentals (NC-0229)

This course was formally known as the Camet and Sheltering Course.

This course will train volunteers and emergency response personnel on the legal responsibilities for companion animal sheltering during emergencies, essential skills needed to set up an emergency animal shelter and how to utilize the Companion Animal Mobile Equipment Trailer (CAMET). Training will be divided into a a lecture format during the morning portion and a hands-on exercise during the afternoon session with animals.  Participants active in shelter planning and operations are encouraged to attend.  Participants are also encouraged to wear comfortable clothing for the afternoon portion.  CEUs for Veterinarians and Vet Techs have been applied for through the NCVMB.

TRAINING IS BOTH CLASSROOM AND HANDS-ON. PLEASE DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES.

Objectives:
- Train personnel about CAMET deployment
- Train personnel with CAMET equipment
- Train personnel the skills needed to set up a shelter
- Familiarize everyone with partners

Training is free and open to the public. Target audience: volunteers, emergency response personnel, veterinarians, vet techs, animal control/shelter personnel, animal response teams, etc.
