Course is designed for back country responders to SAR and Law Enforcement emergencies in remote wilderness environments. Emphasis is on safety, survival, and operational effectiveness during remote rescue operations in North Carolina in severe winter environments.
Target audience will be local, state, and federal responders, emergency management, rescue, law enforcement, search and rescue personnel from across North Carolina. There are no course pre-requisites, however, all participants should be in physical condition for arduous duty and be able to work/operate an entire day in remote environments in extreme weather conditions without any outside support. Packing list will be provided to all students prior to the course.
Topics covered in this course include: Survival and winter shelters, Introduction to Lightweight rescue equipment, Introduction to hazardous terrain crossings in winter/alpine conditions, Basic wilderness medical operations, Basic knots, and Basic hauls and belay systems.

Offering Specific Information
This course is a combination of lecture and hands on practical skills dealing with survival and technical rescue using light weight rescue equipment. The course will be held in remote locations rain or shine (Hopefully Snow). Lodging will be provided for this class, no reimbursement for meals will be provided. Please review the attached packing list for this class, a limited number of snowshoes and crampons will be available at the class if you do not have them. Lodging and additional class locations will be provided upon acceptance to the class.
