SHARES Winlink High Frequency Radio Deployment Training (NC-8904)

This course offers participants the opportunity to become trained in the operation of  NCEM’s Deployable HF Radio Communications system (Kit).  The Deployable Boxes are self-contained high frequency radio units that can be activated when normal communications are disrupted.  Each Kit contains a transceiver, antenna tuner, Pactor modem, power supplies, computer and antenna and operate on the SHARES radio network which links federal, state and local governments, certain response support groups and critical infrastructure facilities.  This course trains personnel to operate within the Incident Command System in support of the Communications Unit by providing Email and voice communications during emergencies, exercises, or  whenever normal communications are disrupted.   Training includes deploying the boxes, erecting a wire antenna, tuning the transceiver, and using Winlink Express software to transmit and receive text messages between emergency operations centers as well as other assets activated or deployed during an event. This class will train on the Winlink Express application operation, Explain DHS SHARES system operation as it applies to NCEM, and train AUXC and PS personnel to send and receive Winlink traffic via HF radio and telnet
