Event Description

HART Dunker Recurrent Training (NC-8180)

North Carolina is populated with numerous bays, lakes, streams and rivers. The HSRT

mission profile routinely requires crews to fly at low altitudes above these waterways.

The low altitude nature of these missions will reduce the amount of time available for

crews to coordinate a response should a water ditching event occur. Research has

shown that up to 80% of all helicopter water ditching events were survivable.

Crewmembers that have been appropriately trained have a 90% rate of survival from

such events. The HSRT Underwater Egress Training program is designed to increases

crewmember awareness and enhances their chances of surviving a water ditching

event.

OBJECTIVE: At the conclusion of this training each trainee will have experienced and

practiced:

• Pre-ditching procedures

• Multiple water entry positions

• Egress procedures

• An understanding of stress management and how it relates to panic and survival
