Capital MRC Skills Lab (CHPR0027)

The Capital Medical Reserve Corps comprises of medical and non-medical volunteers that are trained to assist during special events, public health emergencies, and disasters. The Capital Medical Reserve Corps serves the five county region of the CapRAC Healthcare Preparedness Coalition (Franklin, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, and Wake counties) but are capable of deploying anywhere in the state when requested.

The Capital Medical Reserve Corps will be conducting training to further increase the capabilities of members to perform tasks that have been identified as being essential skills in recent special events, public health emergencies, and disasters.

These skill labs are intended to provide a basic overview of specific tasks members could be asked to perform during events.

The March Skills Lab will review the following topic(s):

  • Community Emergency Response Team curriculum on lifting techniques
  • Stretcher
  • Backboard
  • Medical Stretcher

Members who plan on attending this training should be prepared to perform tasks of a manual nature that could include heavy lifting, carrying, standing for an extended amount time, and/or walking for a set distance.

*Volunteers are not required to participate in all aspects of training if they are only interesting in becoming more aware of the topics being discussed; however, this may impact their ability to be approved to perform these tasks or participate in certain volunteer events.
