Event Description

HURREVAC (NC-999.16)

HURREVAC (HVX) is the decision support tool of the National Hurricane Program (NHP), administered by FEMA, the USACE, and the NOAA National Hurricane Center. HURREVAC has recently transitioned to a web-based platform (HVX) and software is no longer needed. HURREVAC (HVX) is an operational tool and can be used by government emergency managers in planning, decision-making, and responding to tropical cyclone threats and evacuations. HURREVAC (HVX) supports storm tracking and situational awareness by providing various data and graphics provided by federal agencies (NHC, WPC, SPC). It also includes an evacuation timing component, to provide guidance on the timeframe where an evacuation would need to begin (if necessary) in order to complete it prior to the arrival of tropical storm force winds.

The training course will provide an overview of the program- what it is, what it does, and how it works. The training course will also go over the website layout, where the buttons/features are located and what they do, and will cover the available graphic and reporting features of the program that support hurricane decision making as a storm approaches.
