Crisis Intervention Training CIT Class (EMSCIT001)

This class is being offered as part of the NCOEMS EMS Expo.  All applicants for this class will be waitlisted initially.  Once approved, you will be emailed about how to register for the conference.  There is no fee to take this class and the conference fee is waived for CIT participants.  Participants must complete all 4 days (2 days pre-conference and 2 days of conference) and follow up with local MCO in order to obtain certificate and pin.  More details about the local portion of the class will be provided at EMS Expo.  

(CIT) is an effective training and response program designed for first responders, including EMS, who handle crisis calls involving people with mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and/or substance use disorders. The CIT training is designed to:

· Provide supportive measures and an “on-the-job-tool” that can be used by  public safety personnel, including Law Enforcement, EMS, Telecommunicators, and Probation to enhance and maintain personnel, consumer, and public safety.

· Provide intervention strategies and alternatives to assist in directing individuals with mental illness  and substance abuse issues to the appropriate health care system during crisis and reduce their involvement in the criminal justice system.

· Learn Community Resources available for these special populations
